Export credit agencies (ECAs), including EFIC, play an important role in this sector due to the large funding requirements of significant capital-intensive infrastructure projects and the limits on commercial bank appetite for uncovered term financing in emerging markets.

It is important that EFIC is involved early in the tendering process, as it is often a requirement when tendering that the contractor, exporter or investor demonstrate ECA support in the form of pre-completion performance support, project finance and/or political risk insurance.

Infrastructure projects are often large, complex and involve suppliers and sponsors from a number of countries. EFIC is experienced in working with domestic and international financial institutions, ECAs and multilateral agencies to structure sophisticated and comprehensive financial packages.

How can EFIC help you?

With EFIC as a financier to your project, you can take advantage of:

  • longer draw-down periods, as permitted under OECD guidelines for project finance;
  • flexible payment terms;
  • one-on-one assistance from people with experience in export markets; and
  • our close relationships with other lenders.
