EFIC's activities are overseen by a Board made up of representatives from both the private and public sectors. As the Chairman and the majority of the Board members are from the private sector, a strong commercial discipline is imposed on corporate governance. Members of the Board are: | Peter Young, Chairman, Independent Board Member Qualifications: BSc; MBA; AM Term of Appointment: 11/06/2002 - 23/08/2008 Peter Young's experience in the investment banking industry spans more than 30 years. His roles have included senior management positions with the international banking groups Citigroup and ABN AMRO. He is Chairman of Transfield Services Infrastructure Fund, Delta Electricity, AIDA Fund Ltd (UK) and Director of Fairfax Media, the Australian Business Arts Foundation Limited, the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Defence Industry Advisory Board. He is also a Trustee of the Art Gallery of New South Wales and Chairman of its Audit and Finance Committee. | | Howard Davies, Deputy Chairman, Independent Board Member, Audit Committee Member Qualifications: FAICD Term of Appointment: 11/02/2002 - 27/11/2008 Howard Davies’ specific expertise in the insurance industry is in credit and political risk insurance broking. He was formerly Managing Director and Chairman of the insurance broking business Bain Hogg Australia Ltd. He also holds a number of other directorships including Director and Treasurer of the Fred Hollows Foundation. |  | Angus Armour, Managing Director & CEO Qualifications: BA (Hons); MBA; FFin; FAICD Appointed: 31/10/2003 Angus Armour joined EFIC in 1993 in the project finance area, and after a succession of divisional management and strategic roles was appointed Managing Director in 2003. Prior to joining EFIC he worked with Canada’s EDC in project and asset finance in Latin America, Europe and the US; and IFC’s project advisory team for the South Pacific. He is a member of the Minister for Trade’s Trade Policy Advisory Council and a Trustee of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA). In 2008 he was appointed Chairman of the Asian Eximbank Forum and in 2006/07 he served as Vice President of the Berne Union, the international association of export credit and investment insurance companies. |  | Michael Carapiet, Independent Board Member Qualifications: MBA Term of Appointment: 28/11/2005 to 27/11/2008 Michael Carapiet is an Executive Director and Head of Macquarie Capital at Macquarie Group Limited, which he joined in 1985. He has led major international project transactions, cross border deals and corporate finance assignments across a number of companies, industries and countries. |  | David Crombie, Independent Board Member Qualifications: BEc Term of Appointment: 01/10/2007 - 30/09/2010 David Crombie has over 30 years commercial and representational experience in the agriculture industry and operates family properties in southern Queensland. He has served as Managing Director of GRM International, Chairman of the National Steering Committee for Meat Standards Australia and Meat & Livestock Australia and on the Boards of Grainco Australia and the Meat Industry Council. He is currently President of the National Farmers’ Federation, a Director of GRM International and Rosewood (NT Beef) and Deputy Chairman of FKP Property Group. | | Ian Knop, Independent Board Member Qualifications: BBus; CPA; AM Term of Appointment: 03/08/2001 - 27/11/2008 Ian Knop is currently Chairman and Managing Director of Profile Ray & Berndtson, an international executive search and management consulting firm. In addition, he is Chairman of Sullivans Cove Waterfront Authority and Sugar Research & Development Corporation. | | Michael L'Estrange, Government Member, Represents Australian Government Qualifications: BA (Hons); MA; AO Appointed: 24/01/2005 Michael L’Estrange is Secretary of DFAT and represents the Australian Government on the Board of EFIC. Prior to this, he served as Australia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and was previously appointed by the then Prime Minister as Secretary to Cabinet and Head of the Cabinet Policy Unit. Mr L’Estrange has also worked in a range of policy advisory positions. |
| | Sally Pitkin, Independent Board Member, Audit Committee Member Qualifications: LLB; LLM Term of Appointment: 16/07/2007 - 15/07/2010 Sally Pitkin is a professional company director whose directorships have spanned publicly listed and private companies across a diverse range of sectors including government, energy and water, transport, technology commercialisation, employment and property services and gaming. She was a lawyer and Partner with Clayton Utz specialising in banking and corporate law with 23 years experience. She is a Director of listed companies Aristocrat Leisure Limited and Chandler Macleod Limited, as well as City of Brisbane Investment Corporation Pty Ltd and the University of Queensland’s technology transfer company, UniQuest Pty Ltd. She is a State Council Member for the Committee for Economic Development of Australia and a member of a number of advisory boards and industry bodies. | | Tony Sherlock, Independent Board Member, Audit Committee Chair Qualifications: BEc Term of Appointment: 28/11/2005 to 27/11/2008 Anthony Sherlock has over 20 years experience in credit risk management and corporate administration. He has served on a number of public company Boards and is currently a Director of IBA Health Limited and Stockland Capital Partners Limited and Chairman of the Showground Precinct Committee. | | David Spencer, Alternate Government Member, Represents Australian Government Qualifications: BA Appointed: 07/02/2006 David Spencer is a Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Australia's APEC Ambassador. He previously served as Australia's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the WTO in Geneva. Before taking up the WTO position, he was Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and prior to that, First Assistant Secretary of the Americas and Europe Division. Mr Spencer was Australia’s High Commissioner to Canada and Deputy Chief of Mission in Washington. He has also headed the Melbourne office of the Department of Trade and worked in various senior diplomatic roles in Hong Kong, Tokyo and London. |
